{Friday Date night: Petite Restaurant}

For date night we decided to go a Petite for dinner. It’s located on 10th Ave in a tiny brick building right across from the Community Health Foods store. The restaurant is contemporary looking with its dark wooden floors, exposed brick walls and high ceilings. It was a gorgeous evening, so we requested to sit on their patio. The menu is small, but everything sounded fantastic and the prices were quite reasonable as well (nothing over $25 for a dinner entree).

We started with the beef tartare ($16) A great portion to share for two, its mixed with fresh herbs, grainy mustard and topped with a raw quail egg which we mixed together and smeared on our thin crispy garlic toasts and lightly dressed frisee salad. Melt in your mouth, tangy and spicy from the mustard and fresh earthy flavour from the greens. (Forgot the camera tonight, pics taken with my blackberry)

All together now..

Next up were our entrees, I ordered the halibut: pan seared atop a bed of mixed mushrooms and artichoke hearts in a creamy sauce with house-made gnocchi. Wow.. this was amazing. The creamy and thick mushroom artichoke sauce was a perfect match to the flaky and moist halibut. The gnocchi was light, fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside and the citrus frisee salad balanced all the flavours of the dish. The perfect summer entree.

The boy ordered the venison: medallions of perfectly cooked medium rare meat drizzed in a rich demi-glace sitting on top a potato mash with flecks of bacon and fresh herbs. A house made leek ravioli sits on top of everything. The boy let me have the first bite, the sauce was SO GOOD, really bold rich flavours. This is meat and potatoes taken to a whole other level. The ravioli was a nice delicate contrast to the meaty flavours below.

Overall, we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Petite. I had read the portions are smaller than usual, but we were both completely satisfied and the flavours were amazing. We will definately come back here again 🙂
