{Goodbye 2011…Hello 2012}

I can’t believe today is the last day of 2011, so many wonderful memories and changes have happened this past year including:

  • My amazing trip to San Fran
  • Completing my second marathon
  • Getting a new car (FINALLY!)
  • Moving into a new place
  • Trying out new recipes and sharing all those eating experiences with you all
I’ll recap my goals post from last January and set some new ones for 2012, I’m so excited for what the new year will bring 🙂
For my last post of 2011, I’ll show you how I prepare myself for New Year’s Eve (maybe you can pick up some tips along the way).

Start off the day with a energy packed breakfast to power you to the end of the night. I’m currently OBSESSED with steel cut oats. They’re chewy, creamy and fills me up for hours. I’m a pretty lazy person in the morning, but doing this five minute overnight method I found over at The Kitchn sets me up for the week and breakfast is ready in a jiffy. I just heat it up in the microwave for about a minute with a splash of almond milk and voila! The best part is you can change it up every morning with different add-ins so you never get bored. Genius…

Today’s mix included chopped Medjool dates, raw walnuts, chia seeds, buckwheat, hemp hearts, unsweetened coconut flakes, raw cocoa nibs, cinnamon and a dollop of coconut jam (a jar I bought in San Fran that I’m savouring).

I hit the gym for an hour of sweaty and torturous cardio then ran some errands including getting my Japanese knives sharpened at Knifewear and ready to go for the new year.. Displayed on my snazzy new Larch Wood heirloom cutting board I got as a xmas present from the boy (swoon…love it). These are handcrafted in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and look like works of art on the countertop.

Picked up a cup of chocolate ginger almond milk at Caffe Beano then headed next door to Janice Beaton Fine Cheese to pick up a few nibblies for later tonight to ring in the New Year. Today I got a slice of Brie with truffles (hello..) and my fave Grizzy Gouda to go along with rosemary raisin pecan crisps, walnuts, grissini and a tin of Stag terrine (from my stash from Paris).

To go along with one of our favourite bottles of red..

Tonight is the perfect night to don that sparkly top..

Or that cute dress that you have been eyeing for months and got for half price on Boxing Day. Score…

Nothing is more relaxing than enjoying a refreshing cocktail in the shower. A rosemary lemon vodka sparkler in a champagne flute anyone? Goes great with the lovely aroma of Fresh vanilla mango shower gel..

Put on your favourite scent…cause you wanna smell nice for your cute date. Here are some of my faves..

Get your nails done did..Gold and red are a nice combo..Hrm.. can you tell I don’t paint my nails very often.. oops 🙂Add some drama with pretty shades to compliment those peepers. This is my favourite eyeshadow palette: by Kat Von D in True Romance (which you can find at Sephora).

Add some sparkle to your head with a pretty feathered clip or a rhinestone studded hair band. (feather clip from San Fran and clip and hairband from Anthropologie).

Add some bling to your digits (a mix of BCBG, Anthropologie, Prairie Collective in San Fran and inherited).

And slip on a pair of those awesome metallic shoes that have been neglecting in the back of your closet and a nice compact purse that can fit your iphone, cash and cards (clutch wallet from BCBG, shoes from Zara).

Head out the door for a fancy 4 course menu at your favourite cozy restaurant with the one you have the most fun with.

Then come back home for a relaxing night on the couch with the furry companion that is always there when you need him.

Happy New Year’s everyone. See you all in 2012, cheers!

  1. I think your New Year’s Eve is going to be a “score” a well… it’s fun to read a blog from my hometown… I stand a chance of finding some of the pretty stuff you have photographed here. Maybe more in line as a gift for my daughter;) but I think I might be looking for that top!
